Meet Sam Cavallaro, the voice of Saiya! As one of the first characters you encounter on your adventure, Sam’s role is an important one. A big sister herself, Sam brings her own personal connections, loveable charm, and amazing professionalism to her role.
Sam began voice acting over 3 years ago when she listened to an audiobook narrated by a child voice actor. This got her excited!:
“A few years ago, I listened to an audio book series narrated by a kid and I really liked it! I wanted to try that out myself, so my mom did some research. I started with advertisements, and moved on from there. My favorite part is getting to work with people to create these really cool projects. It’s a really enjoyable experience.”
In addition to her work on Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Sam’s voice acting has been featured in educational and mobile app voice overs, as well as internet videos, audiobook narration, commercials, and more!
Sam’s favorite part of working on Kena was pulling from her real-world family relationships. “I am also a big sister, so I really identified with my character,” she explains. In-game, Saiya works hard to protect her younger brother from the scarier parts of the Forest, and Sam understood this dynamic perfectly. Personal touches like this bring so much humanity to the characters of Kena’s world.
Throughout the recording process, Sam worked closely with Ember Lab’s team using Zoom to find the perfect balance of spunk and heart for her performance. She recalls how helpful and exciting it was to receive live direction and notes during her recording sessions.
This multi-talented young voice actor takes her work very seriously. In addition to voice acting, Sam also plays the guitar, ukulele, and piano:
“I spend a couple hours each day working on my voice and instruments. I don’t know where voice-over will take me, but I am grateful for everything I have been a part of so far and I really enjoy working in this field!”
The Ember Lab team can’t wait for you to meet Saiya and hear Sam’s wonderful work come to life! Sam is also eager for the release of the game. “I am so excited to be a part of something this cool!”
